Mira Schendel + Paul Klee

Mira Schendel

See this review on a-n website of the Tate Modern exhibition, which I could not give my energy too after viewing the Klee – Making Visible EY Exhibition.

http://www.a-n.co.uk/interface/reviews/single/4175961

but I found this insight very interesting and accurate, but the exhibition is best seen alone as it is powerful an not try to do the two at once.

I have got to say that the Klee exhibition was amazing too and particularly appealed to m y textile sensibillities due to the colours used and how they were combined  it was a mastery of colour, paint and portrayal of movements, altered realities and  emotions.  Part of my personal issue was seeing Mira Schendel’s mono-chromatic work after that was difficult, but both exhibitions are incredibly powerful in their own right.

What is the creative process?
What makes artists tick?
Why do they create in the way they do?
What does it mean?
Will it inspire you to do it?
If you feel intrigued by some of these questions or you would like to meet for a social evening in the Tullie House Museum/Gallery from 5pm onwards, either get involved in the discussion or simply listen to 7 artists talk about why they feel contemporary fine and applied arts help to enrich our world. Its is a PECHA KUCHA style evening event which means time in the gallery for a drink and a chat. This is a social event, not a lecture but an exciting dynamic presentation, more like a visual arts performance, I will explain on my facebook page for those who click and look otherwise it is
20 slides from each artist x 20 seconds per slide and only 20 important words per slide,
to sum up each image. After this the Q&A session time allows us to debate and get deeper into the discussion artists and audience.
If you wish to see the work discussed go to the C-Art website to see images from the speakers:
Ian Wright, Mark Gibbs, Sephanie Leighton, Christine Hurford, Maggi Toner-Edgar, Caroline Dalton and Sarah Tew
Tickets: £ 3 (£ 2.50 concessions or C-Art members)

Late opening of Gallery, 5.00pm-7.00pm
Lecture theatre 7.00pm-9.00pm
Bar open 5.00pm-7.00pm.

Thinking Caps

Thinking Caps

Maggi talks through her hats, telling a poignant story of love and loss, laced with inspirational creativity. She was a designer/maker who investigated how artists and designers think when they make, so that they could benefit from reflecting on their own experiential learning. As a result through her inspirational diaries, she uncovered her own thinking and the power of the creative artistic process of making and writing to lessen the effects of trauma and sadness.
